Fresh Fig

Fruit Information

Fresh figs (in our case lady's neck), are a delicacy already highly appreciated in antiquity. It was valued both for their flavour and for their medicinal and nutritional properties.

We consider it a fruit, although, the fig is an infructescence, just like the pineapple or strawberries. At first it is a kind of sack that holds the flowers of the fig tree. Once fertilised, it thickens, forming the fleshy ‘fruit’. The fruit itself are the tiny seeds.

There are three main varieties: green, bluish and black, which are much darker in colour. Green figs are the most appreciated as they are usually more juicy, aromatic and sweet, with a skin that is easier to remove. However, within the ‘green’ figs there are many species: Cuello Dama, Granillo, Pezón Largo, etc.
